Client reporting

Branded Client Reports in Word and Excel

A Word report and an Excel workbook of each tenant's findings, from a template you build once.

What you get

Reports to Excel

Choose the reports and run them. Their tables go to the tenant's Excel workbook, and show in Altivane to filter and export.

A scorecard

Scorecard reports rate what they find as OK, Warning or Critical against thresholds you set, each with a section in the client's document.

Documents for clients

Build documents writes each tenant's Word document and workbook from its template, in your brand, with the client's name and logo.

AI summaries

A short summary, such as an executive summary, from the AI service you choose. Off until you set it up.

How it works

From tenant to report in 3 steps

  1. Choose the tenants

Select 1 client or several. They build 1 after another.

  2. Choose a template

Each client can have its own.

  3. Build documents

Now, or on a schedule with Windows Task Scheduler.

Reports to an Excel workbook

Select the reports, then Run. As each report finishes, its tables show with a row count and a status.

StatusMeans
DoneThe table was read in full, and a table that flags rows shows their counts instead, such as 2 critical, 1 warning
PartialSome items couldn't be read, and the workbook's Not read sheet lists them
Not readThe table couldn't be read, and the status says why
Failed or StoppedThe report didn't finish
  • Select a table to see its rows, then filter and export them, or open the workbook or the tenant's folder.
  • A report marked Slow reads items 1 at a time, such as each mailbox, and can take a while in a large tenant.
  • Your selection is saved, and scheduled runs use it. Run now runs 1 report without changing it.
  • Stop ends the run after the current command, and the reports that finished are kept.
  • Each service's page names its reports: Exchange Online, Entra ID, Intune, SharePoint, Teams, Defender and Azure.

The scorecard

Each scorecard report covers 1 area, rates what it finds, and has a section of its own in the client's Word document. Scorecard reports need certificate sign-in.

Build documents

Tick the tenants, then Build. Each tenant gets a Word document and an Excel workbook, from the template it uses.

  • Select a tenant to see what's built for it: the template, the client name and logo, whether AI summaries are included, and each report with its mode.
  • Tenants build 1 after another. The Progress pane groups the run by tenant, then service, and each tenant that finishes shows its status, its Critical and Warning counts and the time taken.
  • Open a tenant's folder, Word document or workbook from its row. Stop ends the run after the current request, and the tenants that finished keep their documents.
  • To build a tenant's documents on a schedule, copy the command line from its right-click menu. See scheduled runs.

What each report puts in

The Contents page sets what each scorecard report reads, and where its tables go.

SettingSets

Templates and their builder

A template sets what each tenant's Word document holds and how it looks. Build it once from blocks, with the document's pages drawn beside them as you edit.

The template builder

  • Blocks
  • Document
  • Pages
  • Settings

Drag blocks into the document, and set each one in Settings. Pages draws the document from a made-up sample as you edit, and Open sample in Word writes a sample with made-up results and opens it.

Page

  • Cover page
  • Contents
  • Page break

A cover with the title, client and date in 1 of several looks, or 1 you lay out yourself with Design the front page.

Your content

  • Heading
  • Text
  • Image
  • Manual evidence

Text takes tokens and figures, as plain text, a callout or a card. Manual evidence is a heading and a highlighted note to complete in Word.

From the tenant

  • Report summary
  • Report details
  • Report table
  • Chart
  • Key figures
  • Findings
  • AI summary

A block whose report wasn't run writes nothing, or says so, and a heading with nothing under it is left out, so 1 template suits tenants that run different reports.

Your brand, the client's name

Set your brand in the template. Each tenant can have its own template, client name and logo.

  • Start from Standard, a full review of everything that was run, or Blank, a cover and a contents page.
  • A ready-made look sets the colour, fonts, tables, charts and cover together, and keeps your company name, logo, footer line and blocks.
  • Brand sets the company name and logo, the accent colour, fonts and numbered headings. The header and footer hold text, your logo or the client's, the footer line or the page number.
  • Put the report inside your own Word document, such as a covering letter, with {Report} where it goes. Or take the styles, cover, header and footer from a Word file you've made.
  • Tokens such as {ClientName}, {ReportDate} and {PreparedBy} fill in each tenant's details. Figure tokens put the tenant's own numbers in a sentence or a key figure, such as {Figure: Secure Score | Percentage} or {Count: Critical}.
  • A template is 1 .json file with its pictures inside, to export and import.

AI summaries with your own provider

An AI summary block writes a short summary of the tenant's results into its Word document, with an AI service you choose.

  • Anthropic, or a service that uses the OpenAI API, such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI (v1) or a model running on your own computer, with your own API key.
  • Off until you set it up: a provider and its key in Settings, summaries turned on there, and turned on for each tenant that should have them.
  • Of the tenant's results, only the headings of the scorecard reports, status counts and summary figures are sent, never names or detail tables. The writing profile's instructions are sent with them, and names, addresses and IDs in the figures are replaced first.
  • A record of what was sent and what came back is saved beside each document. See what would be sent shows a block's request, and sends nothing.
  • The API key is encrypted for your Windows user, and isn't written to the settings file.
  • Writing profiles, such as Executive summary or Brief note, set who a summary is for and how it reads. Change their instructions, or add your own.
  • Each answer is checked: a summary may state only figures that are in the document. If an answer fails the check twice, no summary is written, and the block does as its settings say.
